Gallium nitride is an essential semiconductor for LEDs and power electronics. Producing it as well-controlled nanocrystals has remained difficult.
A University of Chicago and Argonne team reports a molten-salt route that creates nitride particles which can be processed like other colloidal nanomaterials.
This is a materials and manufacturing advance, not a finished product. Scaling, stability and device integration still require validation.
